ABOUT ME
DANIEL MARC LEFEBVRE

Back in 1996 I was 24 years old and I separated my clavicle playing rugby and had a lot of down time on my hands.
I had been watching the T.V. show “Cheers” for a long time and always admired the wooden Indian standing inside the front doorway to the bar named “Tecumseh”. I thought “wouldn’t it be cool to make my own”. I went down to the old Macmillan Blodel sawmill on Annacis Island and picked out a four foot tall chunk of cedar that was cut from a soon to be telephone pole. I drew out my design, scaled it and carved myself my own wooden Indian, which I would later name “Dullknife” a name given to my father when he was a boyscout leader for my two older brothers.
I felt it didn’t turn out too bad considering the crude carpenter chisels I used that my father had in his shop. I was hooked I haven’t stopped since!
I have been an artist my entire life! I knew I wanted to go to art college or some sort of post secondary education for it, when I was only a little kid.
I loved to draw and make things with my own two hands.
I went to Kwantlen College for two years in their Graphics and Visual design program which gave me a good understanding of design and composition, something I would greatly need later on for my wood carving.
In 2003 I started working in the film industry in Vancouver B.C. as a sculptor. This was my dream job! After watching movies like Star Wars and Indiana Jones I couldn’t believe I was now making movies and contributing to them with my ability to carve. This time my carving would be almost all Styrofoam. The material sure is a lot softer and takes getting used to because wood is, in comparison, less forgiving and harder to deal with.
Woodcarving will always be my first love though!
I have been in many juried art exhibits and carving shows where in 2019 I left a woodcarver’s show with awards for 1St Place, Best Of Division, Best of Expert, Best Of Show, People’s Choice and Carver’s Choice. It was very unexpected and I was very honoured to be accepted by my peers.
I spend a big chunk of my sparetime, when not working in the film industry, creating, designing and carving original pieces and doing commission work for anyone with a design or idea they want brought to life.
